Research Achievement by a Master’s Student at the College of Education for Women Documents Wild Plants from Anbar in a Global Database

In a new scientific achievement reflecting the rigor of academic research and the distinguished scientific activity in the Department of Biology at the College of Education for Women – University of Anbar, master’s student Zahraa Aref Yahya has achieved a notable research milestone by registering seven (7) new wild plants from the environment of Anbar Province in the database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), United States.

This achievement was accomplished under the joint scientific supervision of Professor Dr. Ashwaq Talib Hameed, with the participation of Dr. Rasha Al-Tarawneh from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in a collaborative effort that reflects the importance of joint research in supporting environmental studies and plant taxonomy.

The achievement was not limited to international registration only, but also included the identification of three plant species recorded for the first time in the Iraqi environment, namely:
Artemisia transiliensis, Centaurea caballeroi, and Sonchus brachyotus.
This represents an important scientific addition to the national botanical record and contributes to enhancing knowledge of plant diversity in the Iraqi environment.

This accomplishment highlights the active role played by the college in supporting rigorous scientific research and its contribution to documenting Iraq’s biological resources at both the local and international levels.
